Compensation Overview

The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.

What Is the Opportunity?

Travelers' Claim Organization is at the heart of our business by providing assurance to our customers during life's rainy days. As a Claim Rep, Subrogation professional you will be providing quality claim handling throughout the claim life cycle including maintaining full compliance with internal and external quality standards and state specific regulations. In this role you will be responsible for investigating, evaluating, reserving, negotiating, and resolving assigned Subrogation claims. You will conduct, validate and/or direct front line investigations, determine liability, confirm subrogation potential and maximize recoveries by negotiating and settling subrogation claims.

What Will You Do?
  • Handles subrogation claims of low to intermediate levels of severity and complexity including completing investigations, evaluating recovery potential, identifying the cause of loss, identifying responsible parties and their carriers. Obtaining necessary statements, developing theories of liability and determining claim resolution while adhering to Claim Best Practices and Special Account Communication instructions.
  • Evaluates liability and damages to assess Subrogation potential including consideration of jurisdictional statutes, case law and bodily injury value, where applicable.
  • Will service Core Business Markets for specified line of business for Commercial and/or Personal Insurance.
  • May service TPA, Specialty and/or International Markets. May also service all Perils and Loss Types within assigned markets and specified line of business.
  • Achieve a positive result by maximizing subrogation potential, delivering consistent service quality and effective claim handling.
  • Direct preservation of evidence to verify the nature and extent of the loss. Interviews witnesses and stakeholders; obtain necessary statements.
  • May identify resources for specific activities to properly investigate, such as Risk Control, nurse consultants, fire or fraud investigators, and other experts.
  • Effectively prioritize and manage a claim inventory, including diary management and documenting plans of action.
  • Negotiates subrogation recoveries with responsible party, their carriers and other legal representatives/attorneys.
  • Recognizes alternate means of resolution including arbitration, while controlling expenses
  • Supports litigation plans, and strategy with staff or panel counsel; Tracks and controls expense to ensure cost-effective resolution.
  • May attend and/or presents at roundtables/ authority discussions for collaboration of technical expertise resulting in optimal resolution.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • One year subrogation claim handling experience.
  • Knowledge and skill in claim handling, including; coverage, liability and damages analysis, understanding the litigation process, relevant case and statutory law and general litigation management skills.
  • Experience utilizing computer technology, such as Microsoft Office, Email, Web-enabled applications and database software.
  • Utilize analytical thinking skills with the ability to make sound decisions using judgment
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to negotiate and solve customer inquiries or complaints.
  • Good organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and work independently.


What is a Must Have?
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • One year of property and casualty subrogation claim handling experience and/or comparable liability claim experience or successful completion of Travelers Subrogation Training Program.
